Case Study - Healthcare IT solutions company

The Company

The company is a leading provider of healthcare IT solutions.

The Challenge

The company was experiencing backlogs on projects, which resulted in dissatisfied customers and increasing project costs.

The Solution

ASG was contracted to conduct an analysis of the company’s project organizational structure and management capability. The findings were used to implement a delivery excellence methodology with specific emphasis on demand and capacity planning, in addition to process improvement opportunities along the project management value chain.

We analyzed the project management structure and expertise, and the capability to manage a large project portfolio across functional areas of responsibility. This assessment included articulating project outcomes, deliverables, demand estimation, capacity availability, resource assignment and scheduling, decision making, problem resolution, and project close-out and evaluation. These project management disciplines fit within and support a Project Management Office with responsibility to provide support, control or direct management in order to resolve project conflict and track projects to completion.

Results

Our recommendations involved fundamental project management and leadership practices that are commonly understood and adhered to in a consistent and disciplined way. Our recommendations focused on a sustainable approach for continuous improvement in the application of project management and leadership principles rather than a prescriptive solution to correct the short-term issues identified.
